Love from a ‘Higher Being’
Posted by Melissa at 6:06 am in Media, Politics, Weather

While watching a news story on One News Now I was appalled to hear President Bush say in a sound bite (1:40) in an attempt to show his concern for the flood victims in the Midwest that he ‘hope they are able to find some strength, knowing there is a love from a ‘Higher Being’.  Really, and what ‘Higher Being’ might that be Mr. President? Is it Higher Being with capital letters or higher being? See, there is a difference. Is the president incapable of acknowledging the Lord, the One True God even after professing to be a Christian and after he knows he won on the votes of Christians? Is our nation becoming so hobbled by pressure to be p.c. that a person can’t feel comfortable in saying the word God with a capital G?

Dogs, Thunder and Family
Posted by Melissa at 1:14 pm in Blogging, Weather, decorating

I went over to my mom’s house this morning to hang out with her while she painted one of her walls. It turned out great! While is was there,  one of her dogs, his name is D.O.G., started to shake. Come to find out, he was hearing some far off thunder our mere human ears couldn’t pick up. He got so nervous, he started to vomit. Mom couldn’t get him to the door fast enough and some of it landed on the head of his sister who had run to the door with us thinking it was time to go out. I was laughing so hard, and it was so gross! We got his sister, Callie, cleaned up, gave him some puppy downers to make through the thunder storm and mom went back to painting her wall. Nerver a dull moment at mom’s!

Praise God for Swamp Coolers and Electricity!
Posted by Melissa at 5:43 pm in Blogging, Weather

My mom and dad came over for dinner tonight and helped get the swamp cooler set up. It has been in the 80’s the last few days. I didn’t put it together sooner because it had been in a fifties and forties not too long ago and I was still expecting snow. it’s up now and woohoo! It feels good!

Getting Ready for the Ladies’ Tea
Posted by Melissa at 7:58 am in Food, Inspiration, Photography, Tea, Weather

What a busy day yesterday was! I drove all around town looking for last minute things I needed for tomorrow’s cream tea at the church. My scone baker help lady is feeling the time crunch and cannot make more batches which leaves me to make 9 of the 12 batches we need for tomorrow then I must get up tomorrow morning and make the cream for the event. Whew!

My first task was to look for a 2″ cookie scoop to make sure all the scones are uniform in size and shape. I lent mine to my helper but was sorely tempted to drive to her house and exchange mine for the replacement one I purchased to use as a substitute.

I think it will work okay. I will do a ‘product review’ and let you know how it holds up. I have carpel tunnel in my right hand and the squeeze scoop I usually use does wear out my hand. Maybe this one will be better.

On the way home, I drove through the posh area of town, past our dream house. It was for sale last year but we kept forgetting to go in during the open houses. I wish I had. I would have loved to see inside. Yesterday was overcast which is why the pictures are a bit dark. All around this house, are blooming pink trees!

I had a goal to sell 100 scone mixes at the tea. I ran short of supplies and do not have time to go buy more so I am a few short of 100 but maybe ladies will place orders and I can fill those and still reach my goal.

Here is a shot of just some of the mixes I will be taking to the tea tomorrow. Lined up like little soldiers.

UPDATE! 11:21 A.M.

On batch #3 the new scoop is lame! I am now my 1″ scoop and rolling 2 scoops together which is not what I wanted to do but oh well. I grabbed the handle of my cooking stone right after it came out of the oven. Later, as I was eating a snack and looking out of my kitchen window, I saw a magpie hunt a little song bird and take it up to our roof for a snack. I’m still a bit traumatized!

UPDATE! 12:36 P.M.

5 down, 4 to go. I got a sweet little system worked out so things are going quickly. I took a couple of tylenol for my fingers that got slightly burned and for my back and shoulder and my head which starts to ache after a while when I wear it up. It is quite long and heavy when pulled up. I do not cook with it down though so I will not get any relief for now.

I AM DONE!  WOO HOO!! 2:19 p.m.

By Golly, I Think Spring is Finally Here!
Posted by Melissa at 2:44 pm in Photography, Weather

An early morning thunder shower (with real rain and not ice or snow!) prevented me from posting this morning. I am glad I waited. I went to an appointment and when I returned, the sun was shining on the petals of my neighbor’s tree. I love these pink blossoms. It is such a treat to drive up to my house and see her tree in all its pink glory.

Tea Tuesday

Today, we’re having a nice cuppa and some truth.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

and this is what happens when you allow your food to be grown outside your country. I think that instead of more strip malls, we need more farms and ranches.  FOOD SHORTAGES

Guess What Happened Yesterday?
Posted by Melissa at 8:03 am in Blogging, Hospitality, Weather

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Certain parts of the nation seem to be unable to break free from winter’s grip and enter into spring. Well, we entered into classic Rocky Mountain spring time weather yesterday with a hail storm…for over 4 hours! Usually, the hail comes, strips every leaf from every tree and makes a nice tossed salad out of any out door flowering anything and then travels on to find something new to destroy. This all usually takes place in a matter of minutes. Not yesterday. It all started normal, a few bits of icy drops quickly turned into many. It got quit loud. Then, rain added to the mix and lightened things up a bit. then there was rain and heavy hail throughout the day. It came straight down, drenching everything. The ground is still covered in ice rain today. They even had to have snow plows come out and plow our area.
One couple made it to home group but the other was sick with the flu and didn’t make it. Please keep this couple, we’ll call them Couple A, in your prayers as the wife is still under spiritual attack from her trip to Spain.
Robins in Our Yard
Posted by Melissa at 8:41 am in Blogging, Weather
The other day, right there in our yard, were three, count them, three robins hopping about. I didn’t manage to get any photos but it is proof, that despite the repeated snow/rain and thunder we keep having, that springs really is coming!
Winter is very determined this year to hang on until the end. I would not be surprised if it snowed in July this year. It’s happened before, you know.
Some one was surfing the net looking for attire etiquette for a garden tea party where gloves and hats will be worn. If you are going some place where hats and gloves will be worn, whether it is inside or out, wear a dress or skirt. If you are concerned with the heels of your shoes sinking into the ground, wear flat or low, wide heeled shoes.
Last but certainly not least, I used the word, whimsical, today. I was happy that I had the chance to use such a whimsical word as whimsical. That just doesn’t happen too often but perhaps it should. I like to imagine a world where such words as, whimsical, enchanting and delightful are used more than, recession, Jihad, and alternative lifestyle. How about you? What words would you like to see make a come back? Oh, here is a link to the site that delighted me enough to use the word whimsical. LINK
What a Difference Two Hours Can Make!
Posted by Melissa at 8:53 am in Weather
When I got up at 6, it had just started snowing. The street was wet but snow free, and there was a thin layer on snow on the cars, but it was coming down like crazy. Two hours later, this is what the view was out the same window.
Of course, Tech Hubby has the cool Jeep. I like it when it snows, you can’t see my car. It’s a Chevy, with a bad paint job as do all Chevys of this time frame. Something to do with the top coat. The paint comes off  in sheets. Thanks, Chevy.
