I love my church. My pastor gives such good sermons. For the first time in a long time, I do not feel like crying the whole way to church. In one of his more recent sermons, pastor commented on how close knit certain behavioral communities can become, meeting frequently to bolster one another and share a sense of comradere. They sometimes dress alike, a ‘uniform’ if-you-will an outward declaration that they belong together. Not only do they dress similarly, but they use the same slang and terminology. when they are together, they understand each other.
How well does the Christian community blend together and bind together in a show of unity? Do we ’speak the same language’? We cannot agree on dunking vs. sprinkling for baptism, what is appropriate attire in our daily lives or whether or not to tithe without almost coming to blows. What is wrong with us? No wonder why the world hates us. have you reached out to those around you to show them the love Christ has for them? have you done more than just take care of your families’ needs? Do you offer to pray for your friends without gossiping to everyone about what they have shared with you? Do you offer comfort without judgment? Biblical advice? Jesus never left a person to their sin. He pulled them up and out of where they were into a place of healing and onto a new path away from their old life of sin.
Why not invite some ladies over for an afternoon of chatting to get to know one another better? First, it’s just coffee or tea with phone calls to each other to follow up on how everyone is doing. Are they staying the course? Are they struggling? let’s meet again to refresh and renew. Oh look, now you are meeting monthly. Some stay, some go, but a core of strength and dependability is being formed. You decide to do a community out reach and hold a food/clothing drive and open a food /clothing bank for the needy at your church. people want to find out more about where these people who are filled with love worship. Soon your church grows. people are helping each other and the word is spreading. People who look like they have nothing to spare, give a few dollars for the, ‘needy’. Despite the government, the economy and the nightly news, people are loving on each other and no one wants for necessities. All are fed, clothed and belong.
