UPDATE—Nikki from Scarlet Rose Garden, has inserted links into the comments she made here (not on her site) for how to use hair pins. Check it out.
For a surprise, scroll down and watch the music video but read my comment below the video first.
I watched the above video on YouTube and thought, ‘why not’? I’ve been in bed for 3 days with a cold and I’m going a bit stir crazy. First, let me say a few things. This was not easy, but I like how it turned out and I will do this for Halloween for handing out candy, if I can fit into my wedding dress. It is perfect since it has so much beading on it and has these huge, lace bell sleeves. What else am I going to do with it? I’ll have no children to pass it on to so it may as well have some glory all its own.
Instead of the ‘rat’ she’s talking about in the vid, I used my bath scrunching thingy. those plastic mesh ’sponges’. You know what I’m talking about don’t you! lol It worked great. Just make sure to anchor that sucker. I’m going to ask Nikki if she will do a brief guest blog on hair pins. The ones I used are popping out all over. I think the lady in the vid used those, ‘old fashioned’ kind that look like hair pin curves. If you live in or near mountains, you know what I’m talking about. In the vid, she only used power on the face and none in the hair. I used a base of foundation paler than my natural skin tone and followed up with this great, white sparkley body power I have. I also applied it liberally in my hair which didn’t show up in the pics very well but it looks good in person. I need to work on the extra powder in my hair line. All my make-up is from Mary Kay. It’s all I use. I was going to pin a crystal necklace in my hair but I forgot so I’ll do it on Halloween. Tech Hubby took all the pics, what a sweetheart! Next time, I’ll do more of a ‘bow’ mouth and only color in the center and not so much towards the outside. So, are you ready to see how I turned out? The scene on the fan is of a boy learning how to fence in what appears to be the garden of a French court. Please elt me know what you think. Wish I could do this all the time, but I don’t like being stared at! lol
Okay, added photo of me with the wedding dress on.

Madame Melissa, you look divine! Well done! Your dress is gorgeous, from what I can see of the sleeve. I’m pea green over than fan, I want one like it!
Dontcha just love Amy!?
(-me, yes, yes! I love Amy! She is so very talented!) Plus her voice makes me beleive I can do anything as well as she.
I found this link with pics on how to use hairpins… good thing, because it’s hard to describe, lol! In your case I would hold the hairpin with the “teeth” pointing up… grabbing some hair, then flip the pin over and push the teeth down into the base. Hope that makes sense!

Genius on the shower scrunchie! If you need more of a solid base, use absorbant florist foam. Cut to the shape you want or use a cone. The pins work well in it!
When I used a cone one year, I flattened my hair out at the crown. Then I turned my head over and brought up the hair around it and tied with a ponytail holder. You could do this with just the hair in the crown area, then pin the remaining hair in sections around as you like.
You may want to get some of those huge hairpins, the 3 inch long ones, for getting up the bulk of the hair. Since they’re nice and long they’ll anchor into the foam well.
Here’s a pic of me sporting a cone in ‘92. I don’t know what I was supposed to be. Some sort of evil/grecian/sorceress with big mall bangs I guess, HA!

I hope you smile when you pass out candy; I don’t like scary things. However, Melissa, you’ve been Boo-ed! Come find out what that means. :-O
