It’s Time for a Melissa Rant-Stargate Atlantis

I’m fighting a head cold and I’m a ‘tad’ cranky this morning. As some of you may know from previous posts, I’m a big fan of the Stargate series;SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. So many of us fans were shocked and disappointed to hear that after only 5 seasons, Stargate Atlantis would be taken of the air and replaced by Stargate Universe. Wha? ‘Why’? Was the word on many a loyal fan’s lips. Well, sadly I now know why so many of us were disappointed by the higher ups at the, ‘franchise’. Instead of pleasing their already large and loyal fan base, they decided to go after, ‘fresh meat’ a younger crowd. EXCUSE ME??!! I’m getting fed up with being treated like chopped liver by the movie/t.v. industry. I also think that ageism is why Paul McGillion was passed over for the roll of Scotty in the new Star Trek movie. I’ve seen pictures of the new cast members and boy, are they young looking. They look way too young to be in charge of a big expensive space ship. This blatant exclusion of persons over the age of 35 sends a clear and destructive cultural message; ‘You’re over the hill and you have nothing to contribute’. The ironic thing about this is that most of the people behind the scenes, producers, directors, writers, are over the age of 35 (Unless they are going to be replaced too?)

maybe we fans should get together and send something to their offices as a way to express our disappointment with how we, and our favorite actors are being treated? Any one have any ideas?

Bottles of baby aspirin, adult diapers, arthritis cream? Something small, easy to mail and would get our point across.

Let me know!
