Be Nice to Me or I Will Blog about You

How do you like my new covered tea cup? I bought one of these beauties the other day while on a recon mission at ye local Antique Mall. When I go there, I always take pictures without asking. Why? Well, quite possibly because of lame conversations such as the one I just had with Kelly from the Molly Brown House in Denver. I’m going to Denver tomorrow to drive Tech Hubby to a meeting. I was looking for something to do while stuck in Denver (my least favorite place on the face of the earth so far) and decided to visit the Molly Brown Museum. I called the museum and ‘finally’ found someone to speak to asking her if I could take pictures while on the tour. Here is how the conversation went.

Kelly-Thank you for calling the Molly Brown Museum, this is Kelly.

Me-Hi, Kelly, my name is Melissa Bishop and I’ll be in Denver tomorrow taking a tour of the museum. I have a blog and I was wondering if I might take some pictures while on my tour for my blog?

K-No, we don’t allow pictures.

M-So, how can I get some images for my blog?

K-We sell post cards. Or you could take a picture of the outside.

M-Would I be able to take pictures of the postcards I buy, or are they copyrighted?

K-They are probably copyrighted.

M-So, I’m just wondering, why can’t I take pictures while on the tour?

K-It damages the objects in the house.

M-How does a digital photo, not using flash, damage an object?

(Here dear readers, is my ‘favorite’ answer given when you know you sound dumb and you have no authority to make a decision. You could get away with the line, ‘it damages the objects,’ if I were using a flash or say a laser beam for lighting but when I come up with a viable way to circumvent your objections, the best you can come up with is…)

K-It’s just our policy.

The problem with not being able to take pictures in museums or historical locales is; most of the time the postcards being sold are of things you are not interested in looking at and there are no decent interior shots of said locales. It is aggravating that a person or persons may own a part of American history and prevent people from enjoying it through photography. There ought to be a law.
